Bernard Kerik, former New York Police Commissioner, former Iraqi Interim Minister of the Interior and former candidate for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, has started a new blog using Google’s free Blogger service at bernardkerik.blogspot.com.

“These are all national security and terrorism stuff related to some of the threats we face, things that I think we should be looking into,” said Kerik, reached by phone Thursday from his home in Franklin Lakes, in the United States. New Jersey, to TPMmuckraker on the new blog. He posted on Monday on “The Sad Reality of Friendly Fire” in response to the Wikileaks video of a US helicopter killing a Reuters photographer in Iraq.

The blogspot site will also save writings from its old site, thepillarofstrength.com, in case it goes offline.

Kerik, a longtime TPMmuckraker favorite, is also taking full advantage of other online communication tools ahead of his four-year prison term next month. He pleaded guilty in November to charges of tax evasion and lying in the White House during the DHS post check.

Kerik recently tweeted the new blog’s web address, and it has been active in recent weeks on Facebook and Flickr, where his BernardKerik2001 account features recently uploaded photos of the 9/11 attacks, Kerik rallying police to Ground Zero and Kerik presented by the President George W. Bush to the White House in 2004 before his nomination as head of the Department of Homeland Security collapsed amid accusations he hired an illegal immigrant nanny.

The blog header does not hesitate to highlight this nomination. It reads:

“Bernard B. Kerik was the 40th Police Commissioner of the New York City Police Department and commanded the NYPD during and after the attacks on America on September 11, 2001. He then served as Acting Home Secretary . in Iraq and in December 2004 was appointed secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security.

The links section of the blog directs readers to Fox, Drudge, Breitbart, Newsmax, the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund and Kerik’s own Facebook page.

The Favorite Quotes section of Kerik’s Facebook page features an article by Kevin Costner, one by Teddy Roosevelt, and two by Kerik himself. (“To desecrate or displace the symbols of 9/11 is a contemptuous assault on the patriots who died that day – and in the war since.”)

When asked if he would continue to blog from prison, Kerik replied that he had “no idea”.
