WINCHESTER – As a mother of two young boys, Brieanna King-Kulic felt there wasn’t a place to go to find a list of family activities.
“I struggled to find things to do with my kids,” she said. “Moms are so busy these days. Working mothers come home, cook dinner, bathe the children, and then put them to bed. They don’t have much time to research the area.
To create a solution, the Frederick County resident started Winchester Moms. The website at www.winchestermoms.org provides moms a one-stop shop for finding activities in the Winchester area. She also includes her own contribution through blog posts.
“It’s a fun and informative site with a personal touch,” she said.
Under the Events tab, parents can find a list of activities for children and teens in the area, as well as events that mothers can take their children to.
“I want most of the events to be local and not too far away,” she said. “I’ll post things like a big consignment sale in Hagerstown, [Md.]”
She also offers activities, like local ladies’ nights, for moms who need to get out of the house for a night out.
King-Kulic has contacted several businesses in the region to keep them informed of upcoming events.
She has also written several blog posts, including tips on daytime snow activities to do at home in her “Did Someone Say Snow? In addition to fun games like blowing icy bubbles and graffiti on the snow, she provides a list of sled substitutes. A laundry basket, yoga mat, and cookie sheet are some suggestions. Another blog post talks about his experience with the Uber taxi service in Winchester.
Upcoming blog posts will include information on things King-Kulic enjoys, including makeup, fitness, and fashion. She will also discuss vacation destinations, like Virginia Beach, where she and her family often visit. She would like to include guest blogs from area moms, especially those with expertise in a certain area.
Winchester Moms is also linked to social media sites Facebook and Twitter, where events are also posted.
King-Kulic, 31, launched his site on January 1. So far, Winchester Moms has 65 subscribers who receive an email every time a new blog is posted. The site also has over 500 followers on Facebook.
When King-Kulic isn’t working on her blog, she stays busy as the owner of the Posh Tots “Back on the Rack” consignment shop in Winchester.
